Tribute & Message From The Family

Edna Frances (Blair) Ball, 85, of Avon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Francy was born in Pueblo, CO, the daughter of the late Tom A. and Edna (Hammock) Blair. In 1970, Francy and her family moved to Connecticut from Michigan where she began her 35- year teaching career at Roaring Brook School. Francy earned her teaching credentials while raising her three children, graduating with her Bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University and later earning her Master's degree from the University of Hartford. Francy was also a talented pianist—classically trained—and she found great enjoyment playing for various events in the Avon school system and teaching piano in her home. Outside of school, she enjoyed tending her spectacular gardens. Her family was incredibly important to her, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Francy was a sweet, kindhearted, and gentle soul who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Francy is survived by her two daughters, Julie Shackelford and husband Roy of Canton, and Shawn Ball and husband David Katz of Granby; her three adored grandchildren, Zac Marconi, Samantha Marconi, and Patrick Katz; her niece, Cindy and husband Joe; and her nephew Tom. Francy will also be missed by her dear best friend Helen Byus. She was predeceased by her son, Robert "Bobby" Ball; her brother, Tom A. Blair, Jr.; and her beloved Bruce. Francy's family will receive friends on Sunday, April 2, from 2-4PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A memorial service will be held at 4PM following the calling hours. Memorial donations in Francy's memory may be made to the Farmington Valley VNA, 8 Old Mill Ln., Simsbury, CT 06070, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., P.O. Box 718, Old Mystic, CT 06372. Francy's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Farmington Valley VNA, and especially to "JoJo"— her "little piece of heaven"— for the wonderful care and compassion they extended to Francy and her family. Condolence & Memory Journal

I'm so sad to hear of Shawn's mother passing. Shawn and I dated in college for a short period of time. I met her mother and she was a nice lady. Deepest condolences.

I had the great fortune of having Mrs. Ball as my second grade and fourth grade teacher. (I was so excited to have her twice!!) She was my favorite teacher of all time. I have so many fond memories of singing songs from Annie and The Sound of Music while she played the piano. I can picture her loving, beautiful smile in my mind as I type this. She was a wonderful, kind person and as a teacher made me feel special and loved. I am sorry for your loss and am thinking of you all. What a blessing it was to have known her...

So sad to hear the news. I'll never forget Mrs. Ball saying, "Oh sugar-bushes!" in the classroom - what a great teacher she was!

A beautiful and very fitting words about a very dear woman. I will miss her. For many years in the 60's - 80's she was my "go to person".

My sincere sympathy to all her family and also to SO many other's whose lives I know she touched.
